Wham-O Wheelie Bar

Here is another entry from “What Were They Thinking”. Ensuring children wear bike helmets is a wise safety precaution. Just because we didn’t have them when were kids doesn’t mean our children shouldn’t wear them. Even in our day it was considered a prudent thing to have footwear on when riding one’s bike. It only took getting road rash on your foot once to see the sense in this. All of that brings us to the Wham-0 Wheelie bar. It was an attachment you put on the back of your bike to enable you to do wheelies. Yes the good people at Wham-o really put safety first when designing their products. And in case a child couldn’t imagine enough dangerous uses for this item, Wham-o’ s commercial took care of that problem. This commercial was from 1966 and it is easy to see why this product is no longer sold.
