Homerun off the head of Canseco

There is a lot to be said about Jose Canseco and most of it is not so good. As a player he was known for two things: hitting the long ball and being a poor fielder. On May 23, 1993 Canseco’s Rangers were playing the Cleveland Indians. Carlos Martinez hit a fly ball deep to the outfield and Canseco ran back to make the catch. This sort of play, while routine for the pros, is not that easy to make. Canseco got turned around on the ball and that does happen to a lot of players. If he had missed the ball outright or simply dropped it, then the play would have been quickly forgotten. However, the ball missed Canseco’s glove and hit him on the head and then bounced over the fence for a homerun. Talk about adding insult to injury. According to the rules of baseball, if the ball is dropped by a player over the fence or bounces off the player and goes over the fence, it is a homerun.

Canseco later auctioned off the hat which went for over $3000.00
