PEI Is Made Up Of 15 Parishes
From 1764 to 1766, Capt. Samuel Johannes Holland, surveyor/cartographer, and Surveyor General of British North America, finished surveying Prince Edward Island. (Holland College was named for Holland and the school paper is called The Surveyor) Holland divided the Island into three counties, 15 parishes and 67 lots.
Most people are familiar with the county and lot divisions. Not so many know about the parishes. So to educate those of you who care, here are how those parishes are divided.
Prince County
North Parish – Includes Lots 1,2, & 3
Egmont Parish – Includes Lots 4,5,6, & 7
Halifax Parish – includes Lots 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12
Richmond Parish – Includes Lots 13, 14, 15, 16, & 17
St. David’s Parish – Includes Lots 18, 19, 25, 26, 27, & 28
Queens County
Grenville Parish – Includes Lots 20, 21, 22, 23, & 67
Hillsboro Parish – Includes Lots 29, 30, 31, & 65
Charlotte Parish – Includes Lots 24, 32, 33, & 34
Bedford Parish – Inludes Lots 35, 36, 37, 48, 49
St. John’s Parish – Includes Lots 50, 57, 58, 60 & 62
King’s County
St. Mary’s Parish – No Lots
St. Patrick’s Parish – Includes Lots 38, 39, 40, 41, & 42
East Parish – Includes Lots 43, 44, 45, 46, & 47
St. George’s Parish – Includes Lots 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 & 66
